Women in Construction Week highlights companies like Nakoma

This year’s Women in Construction Week (WIC Week) celebrated the wide range of possibilities that women can pursue in the construction industry. The annual event, which commemorated its 25th year, highlights the work that women do in construction. WIC Week ran last week from March 5 – 11. Organizers selected the theme “Many Paths. One Mission” in line with the objective of increasing the representation of women across the entire field.

Nakoma Roofing & Construction is a shining example of what women can achieve in construction. Founded by Nilva Gonzalez, a licensed general contractor, the company is a veteran, minority, female owned firm.

With over 15 years of experience in the industry, Nilva has thrived in a male dominated field. She started out in 2004 as a drywall contractor and worked her way up to obtaining her general contractor license.

After her military service, she moved to Florida where she decided to open her construction business. Rather than being discouraged by the lack of female representation, she worked to be even better than her competitors. Being a woman in a man’s world made her more determined than ever.

Nilva is involved with every decision made and every project executed. From beginning to end you can depend on her presence. Reach out today to get started with your free estimate.
